This game is fairly simple to grasp, but much more difficult to complete than one might think.
The clue is in the name - Buy Nothing. However, there obviously have to be a few exceptions to survive daily life. As well as this, there are a couple of rules that must be complied with in order to win the game properly. These are all detailed below.
EXCEPTIONS
Food - People clearly need food to survive, so this is an essential.
Fuel - If you drive a car, and rely on the car to commute to work and run errands etc, this is essential. You may want to take the game up a notch and remove the car from the equation.
Repairs - If the car needs a fix, or suddenly something goes wrong at home, the game needs to be set aside in order to sort the problem out.
Cleaning supplies - These are perishable items. It's very clear as to what this category covers.
Toilet paper - Does it really need explaining?
RULES
Set a time duration. Start off with a week or a month. From there, push it to 6 months, or even a year.
For the exceptions, don't buy more than required. For example, do you really need to eat out every other day? Food for the house, sure. Restaurants and such don't count.
Set budgets for the exceptions from the start.
Keep receipts.
I'll be trying this in August 2024. I'll do my best to keep a record of it.
